John Roese, the Global Chief Technology Officer at Dell Technologies, anticipates that the conversation around Generative AI will transition from theoretical aspects to practical applications, focusing more on the operational inference and associated costs rather than on training infrastructure and expenses.
“While GenAI has sparked incredibly creative ideas of how it will transform business and the world, there are very few real-world, scaled GenAI activities. As we move into 2024, we will see the first wave of GenAI enterprise projects reach levels of maturity that will expose important dimensions of GenAI not yet understood in the early phases.”
Art Hu, the Senior Vice President & Chief Information Officer at Lenovo, believes that as companies adopt AI technologies, they will grow increasingly aware of the risks and fundamental aspects of AI. Consequently, more organisations are expected to implement specific measures to address and reduce these risks.
He noted that emerging trends like Retrieval Augmented Generation enhance LLMs with data from reliable sources. Ensuring data quality and integrating human oversight during training and sensitive inferences balance Generative AI's intelligence. Additionally, the development of strong governance frameworks, including AI content testing and validation, and system-wide monitoring, is expected. Clear, ethical, and inclusive AI policies, supported by educational programs for teams, will be key in guiding effective AI implementation in businesses.
Crowdstrike's Turedi points out that identity-based attacks will remain a primary tactic for cyber criminals in 2024 due to their effectiveness. CrowdStrike's recent Threat Hunting Report indicates that 80% of security breaches involve compromised identities. The attackers are expanding their strategies beyond using valid compromised credentials to exploiting various identification and authorisation methods, including purchasing weak credentials from dark markets and refining their phishing and social engineering techniques.
Social engineering is notably emphasised, as companies work to train their employees on recognising deceptive practices. Consequently, fortifying identity protection emerges as a paramount defense strategy for businesses in 2024. Without such measures, adversaries will continue to exploit this vulnerability, often with success.
